The Backlog: Capcom Fighting Collection 2

Earlier in the year I did a video review of the first of these collections over on Youtube. Also technically earlier in the year I played this game and got 100% achievements on it... Literally the day before I ended up having to go to the hospital for a brain surgery. So that's why I haven't posted a review sooner and this will be less in depth than usual and just a summary of my thoughts for the games in the collection.

Capcom vs SNK 1 & 2

These two games are more or less the entire reason I got this collection. Another Capcom team based crossover game but unlike the Marvel ones you can't actively tag in the middle of a match. The team functions are more like King of Fighters where you keep fighting until one of the combatants are KOed at which point one of their team mates step in. These games have a point system for the characters where how many team members you can have is determined by how many points they cost. But this release of the game also has an options system where you can have it just be 3 vs 3 no matter what. These games are both amazing but obviously there isn't much reason to play the first one when the second one is included since the sequel improves everything including roster size.

Power Stone 1 & 2

I know these games have kind of a cult following but I had little to no opinion going into them and playing the arcade mode in them was kind of weird. Power Stone 1 even if the game is set to the lowest difficulty the AI is insanely aggressive and dodgey. Power Stone 2 was kind of weird having an arcade run of 4 way free for all battles leading up to some kind of crazy boss monster. Not terrible, but also probably not that great of a game to play without friends to play it with.

Capcom Fighting Evolution

This is probably the most hated game in this collection. It's not that it's really terrible but it's just a compilation of Capcom characters without a crossover and really isn't the right size to justify it being made. From my understanding this game only even exists because another game idea was too big budget and fell through.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper

Interesting that Street Fighter Alpha 3 is the only game from the series in here, but also it would be kind of a waste to have the smaller roster games in here. There is not much I can say about this but the game is great and the Alpha games are responsible for the existence of some of my favorite Street Fighter characters which you'll already know if you previously looked at my Street Fighter Waifu ranking.

Project Justice

Oddly this is actually the sequel to Rival Schools that currently has no way on current gen systems to play it. With a lot of the games that have a bigger roster that doesn't matter, but this game is much more story driven than some of the other entries in the collection and it's weird to not be able to access previous story about these characters to fully understand who they are. Otherwise is a relatively fun game in spite of being an early era 3D fighter.

Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein

An interesting space based adventure setting that is probably Star Wars inspired is the focus of this fighter. And in spite of one of the characters actually being in Marvel vs Capcom I didn't even know this game existed previously. It's obviously an early era 3D fighter that in my opinion isn't that great. But I guess it's good that there is a way to play it preserved.

Any way you look at it, it's nice to have a way to play these old games.

This game is on my 100% list
